Evening all,

Recently I've experienced some problems recieving voice. I can transmit fine, but the only snippets of voice I hear is every 10 or 15 seconds, then there's nothing. Text, both send and recieve works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Adam Arkley

It sounds like a third party firewall/antivirus block. Did you test it with your third party firewall/antivirus program uninstalled (as mentioned in the FSInn/VATSIM FAQ (http://www.apollo3.com/ljames/fsinn/vatsim/faq/)). The default Windows Firewall is totally compatible with Flight Simulator and FSInn. As mentioned in the FAQ make sure it’s enabled during the test.

Larry,

This was literally a "This just appeared" error, after around 6 months of continual functionality. FSInn has been fantastic until now, and this is the only problem I've experienced.

I'm sure following the FSInn/VATSIM FAQ third party firewall/antivirus reference will resolve the issue.

An interesting development:

I noticed today that whenever I thought it was quiet, and I attempted to call up for a radio check, I could then hear the Tower, or another pilot, talking on the frequency. I tested this and proved that whenver I hit my push to talk key, I would begin recieving. After around 30 seconds, this would then cancel out, and I would go back to ont hearing anything...

Any ideas?

Your description is slightly different in your messages, however my suggestion is consistent. It’s the same one I gave you in the first message and each of my subsequent responses.

Hi, Gareth. This is the wrong forum to be pushing Squawkbox. FSInn works and the installation is simple. Of course Sqawkbox is ok also. I don't mind opening a Squawkbox support forum. Of course, there are lots of support forums for Squawkbox.

Since this specific forum, as well as the specific topic is for FSInn support, we can concentrate on resolving FSInn issues.

Would you mind going over the details given to the other user, starting out with the first reply in this thread? The provided resolutions will actually work!

Of course, if there is a chance they would fail, this is the place for us to learn so that we can look for new resolutions for new problems.

hi L.D.JAMES
i was just pointing out that sqwkbox worked for me and still works but i like fsinn better it works well for fs-connect but use ts2 for voice, im running wind7 fsx, iv installed fsinn 3-4 times making sure i follow the steps and still i cannot receive voice unless i key my mic and only hear voice for a few seconds,iv opened ports as suggested but with no luck what so ever maybe im missing something, but iv had a few friends helping and they have computer knowledge iv even purchased software to help check my ports as far as i know iv opened the required ports iv un installed my antivirus, windows firewall is set to allow the ports what else is there to do ??? i key my mic and i hear voice for a few seconds its a shame because i do like the software iv even turned off my firewall so i know it isn't a firewall issue ??
cheers

HI GUYS just to let you know iv managed to get the voice working today after days of messing around with fsinn, ok this is what i did and the only thing i did when i was able to receive voice on the VVL BAR THERE IS A SMALL CHAT BOX OR BOX YOU CAN ENTER TXT IN I TYPED IN THAT BOX rw1.vatpac.org/atc and enter, i was then able to receive voice for some odd ball reason well it works iv re-booted my pc just to make sure it wasn't an unexpected glitch but nope it still works, don't know if its the solution to other peoples probs but it seems to work for me so why not give it a go.after some 41/2 days of digging its working hurray.

This issue pops up from time to time (see earlier messages). It has never been adequately explained why it happens, and usually remains unresolved. I gave up with the FSInn VVL voice client for exactly this reason after I found AVC still works with FSInn.

But I revisited VVL after a recent software config change, got the same issue and tried the rw1.vatpac.org/atc trick and find it works for me too. Any idea what's going on here? I find rw.liveatc.net also works. Presumably any voice server address will work? Where did you get the idea from?

have no idea just thought id try it and it worked but im happy i got it working as there is nothing in the forums about getting vvl to work this way, don't understand why but it works so we both can fly and be able to hear atc lol which is in my eyes a good thing ? lol nobody has got in touch with me from vatsim about this problem so i guess they didn't know how to fix it all i got was a port isn't open and i checked all of this and stumbled on this by accident and it worked so i guess i got the vatsim team stumped about it lol . happy flying raj

I don't think there's a vatsim team as such, as FSInn development has ceased some time ago. Just a very kind chap called LD James who spends a lot of his time helping people out with problems setting up FSInn. There are unfortunately still a small number of issues that the FAQ/sticky can't fix, and this is one of them (though your 'solution' might warrant a mention in aforesaid documents ??). Would be good to find out why it works though.
