View Full Version : Windows 7 - FS9 - FSInn & Teamspeak minor problems

Good morning to everybody; my first post onto Apollo3 forum.

I'm using FS9.01/FSCopilot(1.7)/FSInn(1.3) since a couple of years w/o any problem or issue.
It is used, mainly, on my own network with FSD + Teamspeak servers (on dedicated WinXP system).
The old and now dead system for FS was based on Win XP sp3. All fine there.

My new system SW is based on Win 7 Ultimate N x64 (HW is i7/920 and GTX 275)
I've installed FS9.01/FSCopilot(1.7)/FSInn(1.3) following the guidelines in "FSInn Quick install steps".
I had to add MS Media Player to W7-Ult-N as FSCopilot/FSInn do not like my default VideoLan SW.
After having set the "Run as Adm"; FS9 starts and the "funny" W7-UAC pretends it's going to modify my system.
Ok, I can live with this "made in Redmond" annoyance. All fine up to here!

But, I'm getting two other minor problems:

The first one:
It is on the FSFDT-CP and Teamspeak2-client interface (I think).
I configure the FSFDT Contro panel (starded clicking the 6 red/yel/green icon) with the following in the Voice/Teamspeak table:
- Enable Teamspeak ..... -- Checked (it's set automatically)
- The right TS2 path (it comes in automatically)
- TS is driven ...... COMM -- Checked (default)
Then I manually set:
- FS Joystick Mapping: -- Button2 (of my Saytek Pro Flight yoke)
- FS Key Mapping: -- RightControl
- TS PTT Key Mapping: -- CTRL(DESTRA)
Oddly the last setting is Italian (= RightControl)! Consider that my system is fully US/En except the Keyboard!

Well, if I "just now" start an online flight all goes fine.
TS2 is started when tuning the right freq and, when I push the Joystick Button2, I talk to other people,
.... but ...
when I close and restart FS the last key setting is lost. The "TS PTT..." small window is now set to <NotHotkey>.
If I forget to set it again, TS2 starts fine on tuning but, the first time I push "Button2", I ear a warning sound, a small FSFDT Contro Panel window pops up, and the FSFDT/TS2 interface looks broken ("Button2" isn't working anymore!)
The small window reports: Runtime error "13": (/nl) Type Mismatch.

So, the temporary workaround for this pb is to set the TS PTT Key every time I plan to fly with voice connections.
Unfortunately I don't remember how/if the "TS PTT ..." key setting was working on the "dead" XP system! I'm sure I wasn't setting it every time!

Second problem:
FS9 wont close correctly if there is FSCopilot.dll in the FS9 "modules" folder.
Every time i close FS9 (Exit or Ctrl-C) a W7 window informing that "MSFS has stopped working" with a nice "Close program" button, comes out.
This never happens if I, not planning to fly online, move the above dll out of my FS folders.

Any help or hint?
Thankyou in advance, ciao

The Teamspeak PTT is set for when you actually have Teamspeak open. You do not need to have TS open while running FSInn. That key is being reset due to the fact that it is not "seeing" Teamspeak open.

Hope that wasn't confusing.

If you have FSInn running and FS running, and you can talk to folks online - the link between the FSInn and your ATC/voice channel is working just fine.

The Teamspeak PTT is set for when you actually have Teamspeak open.
Do I need to set it (parhaps every time) or should teampspeak set it automatically when TS2 starts and Fs9/FSInn are found running?
When using XP(32) I wasn't setting this PTT button every time. Now (W7) I need to set it otherwise I get the small error window.

You do not need to have TS open while running FSInn.
Yep true, I don't need. I just like to have it to talk to others!

That key is being reset due to the fact that it is not "seeing" Teamspeak open.
Unfortunayelly I don't remember the way it was working in XP.

Hope that wasn't confusing.
No cofusion, thanks!

Yes, it is working fine **IF** I remember to set The Temaspeak PTT button every time. Otherwise, no joy, small error window as reported above.
Again, this is the difference from my previous XP system and the one I'm using now (Windows 7)

Thank you very much, ciao

Will you send me an image of the properties of your fs9.exe file from the compatibilities tab?

Thanks Larry,
sent 2 shots:
shot8= User= Administrator (not running FS9)
shot43= User= Limited user (the one that runs FS9)

FYI: the problem exists when "Administrator" runs FS9 too!

You’re welcome, GianP.

The information you sent is a little confusing. I’ll have to have an image of the user account that we are working with for your flight simulator session. None of the other accounts matter.

Also, the user account must be an administrator type, not a limited user type. You might be able to make it work with a limited user in Windows 7. I wasn’t.

I prefer to use a Standard user account in my normal day-to-day activities, but for FSInn it won’t work in Windows 7. It’s easy to change the type. Just go to user accounts from your current login, click on your user account, click on “Change your Account Type, then Tic “Administrator” then click the change button. You can just as easy change it back to Standard when you finish your FSInn session.

Make sure you're using an administrator type account. Send me and images of the properties of your FSInnUI.exe and fs9.exe from the compatibilities tab from the specific account we're working with.

Good morning Larry,
about the images sent yesterday:
screenshot8 is for the Administrator (as shown "big" in the image!).
screenshot43 is for the "limited user" usually running FS9.

However the new screenshot is sent as requested.
Plese note:
This time the user running FS9.01 is the system Administrator (the "real one" - usually hidden by MS, unless you know how to activate it!)
FSInnUI.exe ran once "As Administrator", just after installation, to fix/enable the "chat" button, as for FAQ/instructions:

Also, right click on the FSInn UI (the Inn Control Panel) from the start menu. Click on Run As Administrator, then Click on Chat.

The screenshot also shows the
- TS PTT Key Mapping: -- CTRL(DESTRA) --
that I've set seconds before shooting the image.
The setting of the above key is the problem; as it isn't remembered between FS sessions.
CTRL(DESTRA) means RightControl for italian keyboard.

I'm sending a second image too.
This shows the problem when exiting FS with FSCopilot.dll in the FS modules folder.
The problem always happens with the dll in the folder.
It never happens when I don't plan to fly online and move the dll outside the modules folder.

I hope it's more understandeable now!

Ciao and thanks,
GianP

Good morning Larry,
about the images sent yesterday:
screenshot8 is for the Administrator (as shown "big" in the image!).
screenshot43 is for the "limited user" usually running FS9.

I understood what you were saying. What was confusing the issue for me was whether you were trying to run FSInn from a limited user login. To have it clearer was just eliminate the accounts (as far as discussion) that won’t be used.

However the new screenshot is sent as requested.
Plese note:
This time the user running FS9.01 is the system Administrator (the "real one" - usually hidden by MS, unless you know how to activate it!)Digging it out wasn’t necessary, but the account should work, just as any other one that is setup for administrator mode.

The setting of the above key is the problem; as it isn't remembered between FS sessions. This is one of the effects of running your Flight Simulator session with a Standard User Account or Not having a check mark.

You mention limited user in most of your messages. Are you sure you’re not testing a limited user account with Flight Simulator?

CTRL(DESTRA) means RightControl for italian keyboard.

I'm sending a second image too.

The problem always happens with the dll in the folder.
It never happens when I don't plan to fly online and move the dll outside the modules folder.

I hope it's more understandeable now! This is resolved by following the steps provided in the Quick Install reference sheet I gave you above.

Digging it out wasn't necessary, but the account should work, just as any other one that is setup for administrator mode.

Well, I'm always activating the "Real Administrator" on all my systems, since XP release. It wasn't done specifically to investigate FS/FSInn issues.
I like to be "sure" I'm the administrator when it's need to be!

So let first point out I'm sure I'm working as Administrator.
(BTW there is a special desktop background -you can see it in some screenshots- to remember also to me about this fact!)

Now, let's start from problem #2.

From "FSInn Quick Install Steps":

Error when Exiting Flight Simulator
Turn off Sky Blue Radio Tuner. (Addons -> FSCopilot -> Settings -> Tuner -> [click to toggle] Enabled/Disabled)

I'm sure the above step was done the first time FS/FSInn was started; and never checked after.
Reading your post sent me to re-check. I noticed the tuner was Enabled!
I disabled it again and shut down FS. Restarted FS and it was Enabled again!
This time (being "the admin") I took the short/strong road:
Start regedit and disable into the right key! See screenshot14.jpg I'm sending you.

Now it stays disabled and works! No more errors on FS9 exit.
Problem #2 solved -
Just one question remains: Why it doesn't stay disabled from the FSCopilot settings?

Back to problem #1.

From "FSInn Quick Install Steps":

I right clicked on the FSX.exe (or FS9.exe) program and set the compatible mode
to Run as Administrator (by putting a check mark in the "Run as Administrator"
option). Don't put check marks in any of the FSInn modules.

I understand (US/English isn't my first language):
1) Set the "Run as Admin" checkmark for FS9.exe
2) Don't set the same checkmark for FSInnUI.exe (as it is a FSInn module)
Are point 1 & 2 above correct? (as shown in screenshot9.jpg you already have)

With the setting above, starting FS9 from "Administrator" doesn't lead to any working result.
In fact I set:
- TS PTT Key Mapping: -- CTRL(DESTRA) --
then exit FS9 - Start FS9 again, and look at the Voice-teamspeak settings, it is:
- TS PTT Key Mapping: -- <Not hotkey> --
my setting was lost!

As working with regedit solved problem #2, I tried to follow the same road this time too.
Screenshot15.jpg shows that the registry key "TSPTTKey" is never set.
I edited it to:
a) RightControl -- (assuming it is a language problem - see screenshot16.jpg)
b) CTRL(DESTRA) -- (assuming some sw doesn't like brakets(~!~))
no joy, the registry key stays as I set it, also if I "clear" it in the FSFDT Control Panel.
It looks like the "link" between the setting menu in FSFDT-CP and the registry is broken, in both directions, write & read.

You mention limited user in most of your messages. Are you sure you're not testing a limited user account with Flight Simulator?

Absolutely - forget about "limited user"!

Well, it could be nice to understand why I have this behavior with Windows 7 x64, but I can live spending 10 seconds setting "the key" every time I start FS for an online session!
I'll be away from home for a few days. No internet & PC while skiing!

Thankyou again, ciao
