Hello & best wishes to all flying enthusiasts for this new 2010.

I tried today to fly on the network server, and have some basic questions ref running FS9 or FSX under Vista and with FSCopilot & FSInn for network flying :

1. installed latest FsCopilot1.7 (first) and FSInn1.3, ran FSX, opened FSInn control & selected apollo3 network; selected Teamspeak RC22 & apollo3 server; all seem to work but :
no voice detected, no flightplan succeeds in transmitting to / reply from ATC; perhaps I miss some basic setups ?

2. FSInn : available servers do not come up on the control panel when I run FS9 & start FSInn;
are vs 1.7/1.3 not compatible to FS9 ?
I suppose these are required anyway as I run Vista here;
is it not possible to have FSInn/Copilot installed for both FS9 & FSX ?

many thanks for your help & tips;

Hi, Flyingjan. Best wishes to you and yours.

If you follow closely the “FSInn Quick Install Steps” steps provided on our front page ( http://flightsim.apollo3.com ) it’s unlikely that you’d have any problems with FSInn and the FSD Servers. You might not be having problems, just a misunderstanding about the Apollo III Server, which I’ll explain below.

You can use Teamspeak with a private VA or Friend on Apollo. This is usually done by some specific appointment with a group. Other than that, it’s somewhat unlikely that you’ll have ATC coverage when you connect to the Apollo III Server. I believe you might be expecting the availability of a network such as VATSIM which has ATC coverage available somewhere in the world 24/7. I’ll explain more on this below also.

If you sent a flightplan the server will receive it. All you have to do is type in your flight plan, then click on send. You’d have this all logged on the server and can verify it if you log in by your own specific CID which you can get by registering at the top link on our opening page (Register For CID (http://flightsim.apollo3.com/fsdbase/fsdbase.pl?cmd=register)). You can view the log with the flight log utility, Flightlog (http://flightsim.apollo3.com/fsdbase/fsdbase.pl?cmd=recentflights)

Again, you can use those utilities to see your activity and immediate Flight Plan if you sent it. You can also use Servinfo to see your flight plan. (Instructions for setting up Servinfo as well as your personal CID can be found on the Server Login Information page link on our opening page ( http://flightsim.apollo3.com ).

2. FSInn : available servers do not come up on the control panel when I run FS9 & start FSInn;
are vs 1.7/1.3 not compatible to FS9 ?
I suppose these are required anyway as I run Vista here;
is it not possible to have FSInn/Copilot installed for both FS9 & FSX ?You won’t see a list of servers. The links above shows you the available Apollo III servers (the server that should be used is fsd.apollo3.com).

It doesn’t matter which Flight Simulator version you’re running. Either should be easy to use following the steps that are provided in the link I gave you above. If you have a problem with one of them, let me know and I’ll get you up and running on that one specifically. Then after that version is running okay if you want to troubleshoot the other we can do that, but it’s really just a matter of following the steps, then clicking on the connect button (which will be the name you specify for the Apollo network).

many thanks for your help & tips;

flyingjan OO-JDUYou’re welcome.

By the way your questions about ATC makes me think you’re looking for a network like VATSIM. To connect to the VATSIM network, you would do the same steps in setting up FSInn, but put your VATSIM login information in the VATSIM information tab, then click on the VATSIM button to connect to VATSIM.

Reading the VATSIM PRC ( http://www.vatsim.net/prc ) will give you great learning curb for using VATSIM. You might consider starting out with the PRC sections:

Required reading
First Flight Lessons
Software Addons (to grab Servinfo to see which areas are ATC covered and populated with other aircraft)

Hello mr James,
thank you very much for your quick support, especially seen this time of the year :)

I re-installed FSCopilot & FSInn, watching screenactions during the setup of the programs; all seem OK now when running either with FS 9 and FS X;
in Control panel of FSInn, I see now all available networks;
so for me point 2 is closed;

As for the first item, if I understand well, the Apollo server does not function a.o. as ATC but is a common server platform for flying/sound sharing through which external ATC's can operate ?

See if I can join, is there a suitable one you can recommend for starters like me, perhaps one in Belgium ?

sincerely

With the Apollo III server, rules are very lax. You can fly anywhere at a whim. It’s alright to look at the connection status using Servinfo and if you see traffic, one aircraft or a group flying in an area, connect and join the flight. I do it often.

I would discourage flying too close to other people’s formations and being a potential nuisance. You can easily use FSInn’s radar to keep 50 miles or more separation. In conversation with various other users flying, they have always welcomed the extra traffic.

If you just pop on and fly anywhere you choose, even if no one is there. If you have a flight plan someone might connect with a similar flight plan and you might not be along for the whole flight.

Also, as you seem to have already acknowledged, of course, you can invite friends and connect with your own group flights.

But in a direct response, I can’t recommend an area with traffic because the traffic is so sparse.

Of course, VATSIM is a different story. It sounds like you’re describing and objective of what VATSIM is all about. Look at my other post for having a great learning curb for connecting and using VATSIM. Also you can look at the VATSIM home page for flyin’s and other activities where there will be lots of activity in various areas. Click on ( www.vatsim.net (http://www.vatsim.net) ) and click on “Let’s Go Fly”.
