I used to have FSINN working fine until I had to reinstall FSX. I have Vista 64-bit. FSX is set to run-as-administrator every time. I followed the instructions on how to install FSCopilot and FSINN. None of the boxes in those preferences are checked. When I try to connect to Vatsim, it just turns red. My info is correct, and I have a correct server IP. Also the chat, when trying to run-as-administrator from the start menu, says
Run-time error '372':
Failed to load control 'Chat' from FSCopilotFSInn.ocx. Your version of FSCopilotFSInn.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.

Hi, Scott.
First address the error message by following the step provided in the FSInn/VATSIM FAQ linked in the installation guide. Let me know if this resolves the error message. It might resolve other problems also. If it doesn't we'll take it from there.

From what you're saying it doesn't appear that you're looking at the FSInn/VATSIM FAQ. It doesn't mention running chat from outside FSX. That's a reference from the Installation steps (troubleshooting section).
You mentioned a version error and I suggested that you perform the solution from the FAQ for the version error. That's FAQ question #18 ("Why am I getting a new version message when I run FSInn?").
By the way, I suggest that you look at all the list of questions in the FAQ just to be aware of some of the issues that you can have so that when one occurs you'd be prepared.
Can you tell me the results after performing the resolution provided in FAQ question #18?
Thanks in advance.

Will you give me the wording of the error you get and the steps you actually perform on your computer?
Thanks in advance.

The wording of the error is in my earlier post, it's the Run-time error. The steps I took:
went to start menu->FSFDT->(right click, run as administrator)FSInn UI->settings->general->general-> uncheck FSINN Internet Online Mode
wwa2363

I did try it from in FSX also, and the chat still doesn't work (error message is Failed to create FSCopilotFSInn.Chat (CWNDF98MAIN=9ed07cc)) But I can get on to Vatsim now, just no text.
I forgot to add that to my last post.

Hi, Scott. I asked you to give me the exact error message because I thought you had done the some of the steps that might clear up one error message and different missed step might bring up a different one. In fact you just posted two messages in a short period of time with two different error messages
One of the messages you mentioned, “Your version of FSCopilotFSInn.ocx may be outdated.” For that one I asked you to perform the FAQ resolution for the version error. I didn’t know whether you had done that or not. I didn’t see where you had made a reference to the step in the FAQ. It’s FAQ question #18, “Why am I getting a new version message when I run FSInn?”.
Actually looking at your next message you made your first reference to it and are getting a different error.
This is why I ask for those specifics. This is the only way I can actually know where we are, by these important details.
At this time you’re getting a completely different error message. Thanks for giving me this information.
Now will you send me images of the properties of your fsx.exe and FSInnUI.exe files from the compatibilities tab?
http://upload.apollo3.com/~ljames/upload
Thanks for taking the time to help me to help you with the issues.

Okay, so i did the fix you asked me to do, number 18.
When trying to open the chat from the start menu I get this error:
Run-time error '372':
Failed to load control 'Chat' from FSCopilotFSInn.ocx. Your version of FSCopilotFSInn.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.
When trying to open chat from the FSINN module I get this error:
Failed to create FSCopilotFSInn.Chat (CWNDF98MAIN=9ed07cc)
I will upload a screenshot in a couple minutes.

You uploaded the properties of the FSInnUI.exe file, but I need to see the properties of the FSX.exe file. You uploaded the properties of a shortcut to the FSX.exe file, not the properties of the FSX.exe file.

If you're having problems locating your FSX.exe file, grab the tool, FindFS ( http://download3.apollo3.com/download/download.php?id=15 ).

I know you've mentioned the error message(s) a number of times. But can you send images of all the error messages that you're currently getting.
I'm trying to duplicate the errors that you're getting.

Make sure your .NET Framework (3.5 SP1) is up to date. It is a requirement for FSInn/FSCopilot

Hi, Hurkulez. The message that suggests the requirment for .NET Framework is a mistaken message. It doesn't use any .NET Framework.. I thoroughly tested it without it. It can be ignored.
Upgrading the .NET Framework, having it installed, or not having it installed has not effect what-so-ever.
The Installer (which isn't the actual program) checks for .NET Framework. It was a mistake on the part of the developers to not comment out that default characteristic of the installer program.

If it was not required. It would not check for it...
Neither FSInn or FSCopilot require anything from the .net install. It contains everything that is needed. Neither FSInn nor FSCopilot checks for the .net packages.
After the development of the FSInn and FSCopilot the install program was added. The install program checks for the .net packages by default. We forgot to comment out the part from the install package that checks and ask for it.
It's not needed, nor used at anytime. It won't hurt to install the .net library, but it won't do anything for FSInn or FSCopilot. A user can save time and ignore it unless they need it for a different program.
Unless you're using dotnet for something else, you can always uninstall it and notice that it won't affect FSInn or FSCopilot.
I would consider this valuable information for someone giving support for FSInn. So I thought I'd pass it along to you.

^^^^ As I stated earlier. ^^^^
And auto install it if its not present
Also note it says in the official FSINN MANUAL that if using Windows, that at the very least SP2 must be installed. So please make sure your windows updates are complete. And as I stated in this post or another post you may have to run windows update more than once to get all the updates...
Note sp2 includes .net and the manual also says that if you had an older version of FSInn installed prior. That the older version had to be uninstalled and that there was a tool to also "COMPLETELY REMOVE IT FROM THE REGISTRY"

Why don't you test it. I'm part of the development team. The prompt is a mistake. I'm telling you directly from the developers that it's a mistake. We mistakenly didn't comment out a line in the installer package that provides a method for developers to have dotnet installed. We don't need nor use dotnet. We made a mistake of which I'm trying to clarify for you.
You can say that we also made a mistake and hardcoded a the functionality of the "Load Servers" button which I'm constantly clarifying to users. We also made a mistake and hardcoded a default server that doesn't work any more.
I have some users on VATSIM that argues the default IP that we have should work. But it doesn't.
If you look at the Quick Installation steps you see on the main page (http://flightsim.apollo3.com), you'll see that I have installed the package numerous times on many machines. I have actually tested the install 100's of times on fresh machines. When i say fresh, I mean the OS was just installed without anything else but Flight Simulator. No dotnet. I don't install the dotnet just FSInn. Within minutes, following the steps I'm connected to VATSIM.
The installer will ask the user if he wants to auto install dotnet. You can choose not to. If you choose not to, it will not be installed. Dotnet isn't installed on a number of my machines. I don't use dotnet for most of the applications on the machines in my network. I know when something is installed and when it's not installed.
You'll very welcome to this information from my experience and actual test. If it were auto install, it wouldn't be possible for me to be so absolute that it functions without it. However, since it's not auto install unless the user chooses that option, I can assure you, that it will not be installed on the user's machine. Whether chooses to install it or have it installed or not, it's not used by FSInn or FSCopilot. Again, I don't take the time to download it, or install it on a number of my machines. I actually too the time to verify what I'm saying in the past to answer a users question on this matter.
You might actually consider testing this for yourself.
